“We are committed to significantly reducing MSU’s footprint by developing new techniques for managing this complex ecosystem of agriculture, research, office and living environments that constitute our campus community.”- MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon
There are many ways Michigan State University is taking the initiative to go green. Some of these ways include:
-Double sided printing at the library
-South Complex has recently changed to energy efficient light bulbs and has already seen the effects with lower energy bills
-Building a new recycling facility that will pay for itself in 12 years
-Schedule classes more efficiently to reduce heating and energy costs in buildings
-Foster behavior changes by developing a “green” certification program for units and departments.
-Installing a vegetative green roof on a portion of the Plant and Soil Sciences building
“Some people say that the university is moving slowly, but I say that we are moving deliberately,” Poston said. “We are not interested in environmental stewardship ‘for the moment’; we want to set a path for behavior and culture change.”- Vice President for Finance and Operations Fred Poston
